Arrivederci 2018

If you’ve followed my blog for the past year, then you know 2018 has been a tough one. It has definitely not been our year and to say we’re ready for 2019 is a HUGE understatement.

We started the year full of hope. Construction was well underway on our new home and I had a pretty amazing contractor, wink, wink. Lots of life lessons are learned when building a house. Always watch where you sit—there may be a bee occupying the space. Balance is key on a ladder. Nail holes and drill holes are easily filled with Dove soap. Measure, measure, measure and for good measure-measure again. You’re tools will always be the last place you leave them, but remembering that place sometimes proves difficult. Everything takes exponentially longer with subcontractors. Words said during building a house are not a direct reflection on true feelings. You’re husband will love you, but will not love all your ideas! The end will be worth the process.

Why we decided to amp up the fertility treatments in the midst of also building a home is beyond both of us, but hey go big or go home-right? Or, better yet, go nuts!!!

After multiple failed IUIs and medicated cycles, we met with a new fertility doctor and things were moving forward. Months of testing and appointments and we were headed straight towards IVF. I never thought IVF would be part of our journey, but there we were and just as quickly, there we weren’t. Months of prep, tests, appointments, weeks of shots—all to end with one phone call.

But, we move forward. It’s what we do. So, our pendulum took an upward swing and we headed to Baltimore for work/vacay. And, then, whack there goes the pendulum! A split decision to leave my work bag in the conference room while running to the bathroom left a great opportunity for someone to get a full tank of gas on my credit card. (By the way, if you’re in Baltimore and it’s not an emergency be prepared to wait HOURS to complete a police report.) But, the vacay and conference must go on and in the end it turned out great—I didn’t have to pay for anything—it was all on the hubs, haha.

And, the year goes on and on and on. We’ve added another precious niece to our family. We’ve moved into our new home. We lost Travis’s uncle and other loved ones. We’ve traveled more. We’ve dealt with work issues, car issues, life issues. 2018 has had some memorable and amazing experiences, but we’re definitely ready for 2019. For new beginnings, fresh starts, more love, more good and less sad. 2019 brings our 10 year anniversary and Travis’s 40th birthday. So, sayonara 2018 don’t let the calendar hit you on the way out.

Blessings,

P.S. If you’re a fellow infertility sister, I’d love to hear your story and add you to my prayer list. Infertility is lonely in a world full of babies so, it’s nice knowing you’re not alone.

P.P.S. If 2018 wasn’t your year and your praying for new beginnings in 2019, I’d love to pray with you and add you to my prayer list. Life is tough, but with faith we can keep moving forward.
