What I’m Reading

Book

Y’all I finished debut author, Larissa Weatherall’s, book When It Was Us. I finished it over the last weekend, but I still am suffering from serious book hangover.  I have to start by saying that I was blessed to grow up with Larissa.  Her step-grandmother married by grandfather when I was a toddler so, it’s safe to say we were raised as cousins.  We went to the same school, new all the same people, and celebrated Christmases together.  Larissa has an amazing talent.  She is a natural storyteller and one would never realize this was her debut novel.

The story of Drew and Anna took me on a rollercoaster of emotions.  The ups and downs of this story had my head reeling.  I went from happy, to sad, to angry, to remorseful, and somehow back to happy.  This is a love story for the ages where true love really does conquer all.  For readers who enjoy a good ‘ole love story—this is for you!  Anna and Drew are meant for each other. They’ve loved each other since they were kids. But life pulls them apart, and they just can’t seem to make their relationship work out. However, when Anna returns to Sage Hill after her divorce, all of their feelings rise to the surface again.

I cannot say enough good things about Larissa’s debut novel.  Larissa’s ability to navigate the past and present feelings of Drew and Anna goes straight to the heart and leaves you cheering for them throughout the entire book.  This book keeps you on your toes through the last chapter.  There is never a lull in interest or enjoyment in reading the story of Drew and Anna.  Watching them struggle with their feelings and emotions was painful, especially when it was so clear that these two belong together.  But, like any good romance story, there has to be something deeper to the love story.  If it were only kisses, rose petals, and butterflies, we wouldn’t be reading it, right?

In the end, this is more than a love story; it is a story of forgiveness, redemption, faith, friendship, and the true power of love.

If you’re looking for your next romance novel, look no further than When It Was Us.  This is a book that will stick with you.  I can’t wait to read Book 2 of The Sage Hill Series and see what journey Larissa takes us on next.
